Book Review | The Secret Lives of County Gentlemen by K.J. Charles

Thank you to Pride Book Tours for letting me be part of this bookstagram tour and sending me a copy of The Secret Lives of County Gentlemen by K.J. Charles.

The Secret Lives of County Gentlemen by K.J. Charles is a lush LGBTQIA+ romance set in the wetlands of Romney Marsh. Think Bridgerton meets A Marvellous Light.

“Abandoned by his father, Gareth Inglis grew up lonely, prickly, and well-used to disappointment. Still, he longs for a connection. When he meets a charming man in a London molly house, he falls head over heels-until everything goes wrong and he’s left alone again. Then Gareth’s father dies, turning the shabby London clerk into Sir Gareth, with a grand house on the remote Romney Marsh and a family he doesn’t know.
The Marsh is another world, a strange, empty place notorious for its ruthless gangs of smugglers. And one of them is dangerously familiar…”

I absolutely adored this queer regency romance. It’s full of secrets, blackmail, smugglers and sizzling sexual tension, as well as all those adorable little moments that make you smile. I couldn’t put this book down and you may have already noticed me singing its praises over on Twitter.

It’s beautifully written, well-paced and the backdrop of the Marsh was incredibly atmospheric and well-researched. This was a wonderful start to the Doomsday series and I’m very much looking forward to the release of book two in September.
