Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I’m not embarrassed to admit, that Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out by Ryan Love had me in tears on more than one occasion. Don’t worry, happy tears all around. Prepare yourself for a cosy and uplifting journey of self-acceptance and a new fictional grandad you’ll fall in love with from the very first chapter…
“When 79-year-old Arthur Edwards gathers his family together to share some important news, no one is prepared for the bombshell he drops: he’s gay, and after a lifetime in the closet, he’s finally ready to come out.
Arthur’s 21-year-old grandson, Teddy, has a secret of his own: he’s also gay, and developing serious feelings for his colleague Ben. But Teddy doesn’t feel ready to come out yet – especially when Arthur’s announcement causes shockwaves in the family.”
After nearly 80 years of being in the closet, Arthur can no longer live another day without being his true self. His family’s reaction is mixed to say the least. They’re understandably confused by his sudden omission. Love tackles both the positive and negative ramifications of coming out and embracing the LGBTQIA+ community in a sensitive and thoughtful manner.
Arthur’s grandson, Teddy, is also learning to embrace his sexuality. They are both beautifully written characters, both vulnerable and relatable in their own ways. You can’t help falling in love with Teddy and Arthur. The two POVs weave perfectly throughout and the supporting cast of characters (especially Oscar and Madeleine) are expertly crafted.
Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is a wonderful and uplifting read that gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings.
Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out will be released on April 13 and is available to pre-order HERE.
