Book Review | Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

Thank you to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree was heaps of good old-fashioned fun. There’s no perilous journey, distraught damsel in distress or bloody battle in this fantasy-based romp. Instead, Baldree crafts a magical yet light-hearted tale of an Orc and her dreams to open the first coffee shop in the city of Thune.

“If Viv wants to put the past behind her, she can’t go it alone. And help might arrive from unexpected quarters. Yet old rivals and new stand in the way of success. And Thune’s shady underbelly could make it all too easy for Viv to take up the blade once more.”

Viv is an ex-mercenary with a big heart that is determined to finally make her way in the world. It’s no surprise that she has a bit of a jaded view of the world considering she’s used to sleeping with one eye open, however, with nothing but her determination, along with the kindness of strangers and a mysterious magical relic, we watch her follow her dreams one coffee bean at a time and put her bloody past behind her.

It’s a surprisingly heart-warming tale, full of delightful characters (Thimble must be protected at all costs), hope, friendship, found family and baked goods. The book also features a satisfyingly sweet slow-burning queer romance that will have you grinning from ear to ear.

If you’re looking for a cosy fantasy read with a big heart and low stakes, I definitely recommend Legend & Lattes. It was a gentle yet curious read and one that I absolutely adored.
