Setting powder is something I wear daily and go through at quite an alarming rate. I use it all over my face, however, I pay close attention to my nose, chin and forehead; basically anywhere oily that my makeup is prone to breaking down. If your makeup slips around the corners of your nose or creases under your eyes and, if your skin isn’t overly dry, I highly recommend you use a setting powder. It really does help set and hold your makeup exactly where you want it to, as well as prevent shine and control oil. If you prefer a dewy finish to a matte one, there are some beautiful, albeit pricey powders I’ve tried which contains a luminosity that helps your skin to glow instead of shine. Two examples of ‘glow within’ type setting powders include my holy grail, the Hourglass Translucent Veil and Charlotte Tilbury Genius Magic Powder. I’ve yet to find a drugstore equivalent but if you know of any please share in the comment section below!
As much as I love a boogie splurge, I haven’t really been spending a lot of money on makeup recently. Instead, I’ve been investing in a few high-end skincare bits which I’ll be sharing with you in the upcoming months. Finding a decent drugstore setting powder can be tricky. Some can have a chalky consistency that coats the skin in a ghostly white cast that extenuates texture and creases. The Maybelline Lasting Fix Loose Setting Powder was a product I came across whilst searching for the Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder I once saw NikkieTutorials use, however, I don’t think this product is currently available in the UK. Lasting Fix is a translucent mattifying powder which gives the skin a smooth appearance whilst setting your makeup. When applied with a light hand, it blurs imperfections and prevents creasing whilst being pretty much undetectable. The microfine powder is incredibly soft and doesn’t cling to texture or give my skin a white cast.
The downside? The sifter is a bit messy inside, it could definitely do with some kind of closing mechanism so you don’t lose so much product. I have also read a lot of comments online claiming it can cause flashback under flash photography, although this is something I don’t have any experience with. Although talc is the first ingredient it doesn’t feel chalky or drying. Lasting Fix extends the wear of my makeup and keeps my forehead and nose shine-free for hours whilst giving my skin a soft-focus finish. Definitely one of the best drugstore mattifying loose powders I’ve purchased.
