It’s always a tricky one when you are over-the-moon to work with one of your favourite makeup brands and the product just doesn’t work for you, especially when they are generous enough to send over a wonderful package full of new products and a range of shades. Sadly, this is the case for the new Revolution Conceal & Hydrate Foundation and Concealer Collection. I should have fallen in love with this as, on the surface, it ticks so many boxes. The frosted glass bottle with a pump and rose gold cap is beautiful and I’m all about a foundation with a ‘radiant’ glow right now. Plus, it contains Hyaluronic Acid, anyone who follows me on Instagram knows I absolutely love the stuff. I’m constantly raving about serums, masks and moisturisers that contain this marvellously hydrating and plumping ingredient. Also, Revolution really has outdone themselves with the shade range – 50 shades covering a multitude of undertones! The Conceal & Hydrate foundation retails for £9 and the concealer only £7. Yes, yes, yes…
However, every time I’ve worn both the foundation and concealer… I’ve had issues. I’ve applied both together, separately, with several primers, without primer, with setting powders and sprays, applied it with my fingers, a brush and a Beauty Blender but I just can’t get it to work with my skin. I have combination skin; slightly oily chin, nose and forehead with dryer under eyes and cheeks. I’m used to foundations slipping around my nose and forehead, especially dewy ones, but this foundation would breakdown all over my face (even with a setting spray) and would settle into cakey patches that looked almost chalky, which I found really strange considering it’s supposed to be a hydrating formula. The concealer was great for my discolouration and spots, however, I couldn’t wear it under my eyes because it would crease really, really badly. So much so that I found myself continually looking in mirrors and blending it in throughout the day because it would gather so much. The foundation would also transfer easily and crease on my eyelids throughout the day. It was just a disaster.
I had unbelievably high hopes for the Conceal & Hydrate collection, I really did. No one wanted me to fall in love with this collection more than I did. I hate writing negative reviews, especially as the brand has been so generous, however, I pride myself on being honest with you guys. Remember, just because these products didn’t work out for me, that doesn’t mean they won’t necessarily work for you! Foundation is such a personal product and this collection does have a lot of positives such as the price point, packaging (now with a pump and not a spatula) and the shade range is incredible. It’s very rarely I find my EXACT shade and the inclusivity of this collection made it easy.
