Mother’s Day (31st March) is fast approaching, it’s time to pull up your socks and get organised. If you’re still struggling for that perfect gift to make her day extra special, here are a few of my top picks…
For the Mum Who Loves Beauty…
If your mum appreciates quality skincare and makeup, you can’t go wrong with a beauty box as everything is already packaged and ready to go, so all the hard work is done for you. Latest in Beauty have recently launched the Spring 2019 The Beauty Heroes box. Equipping you with everything needed to shake up your beauty routine for the new season, this expertly curated edit provides 15 products to help you get ready for Spring. This exclusive box is worth £124 and yours for only £28.
If you don’t know your mum’s specific preferences, makeup can be a difficult thing to purchase. You can’t go wrong with a simple neutral palette full of nudes, browns and shimmering golds. The Tartelette 2 in Bloom Eyeshadow Palette (swatches available here) features Tarte’s Amazonian clay formula which is incredibly easy to blend. The shades are evenly pigmented and buttery soft.
As for skincare, you could try a luxury face oil. If you want to splash out, I can’t recommend the bestselling Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (£38) highly enough; it’s done wonders for my skin. If you’re on a budget, the Super Facialist Rose Hydrate Miracle Makeover Facial Oil (£14.99) is another brilliant option. Both contain an aromatic blend of aromatherapy oils and leave skin feeling beautifully soft and plump. If your mum struggles to get a decent night sleep, another wonderful collection of lotions and potions that contain relaxing lavender is from Feather and Down, which you can read more about here. Their products are very reasonably priced, beautifully packaged and suitable for both baths and showers.
The Essentials: Flowers, Candles & Cakes
Candle Jar showcases the best of Scotland’s candle makers. It’s the home of a number of brands and features a handpicked selection of candles from the likes of dawsonbrown, Shearer Candles and The Melt Pool. I love discovering and supporting local businesses from my homeland and I think having one online store that brings them together is a wonderful idea. You can read my review of Melt Pool’s Lemongrass and Lavender candle here.
If you’re planning on sending flowers this Mother’s Day delivered directly to your mum’s door I highly recommend you try Prestige Flowers. I was kindly sent one of their Valentine’s bouquets and since then purchased another bouquet to send to my mum on the anniversary of my nan’s passing. The Pink Blossom arrangement comes with free chocolates and a lovely arrangement of Snap Dragons, Germini flowers, Santini Ferry Chrysanthemums, Kenyan Pink Jewel Roses, Gypsophilia, Pittosporum, and Orchids. Their prices are very reasonable.
If your mum likes to bake, why not gift her to a monthly subscription to The Bakedin Baking Club? Each month, Baking Club members receive a baking box with a step-by-step recipe card and all the dry ingredients perfectly weighed out, plus a few handy extras such as baking paper, butter measure and piping bags. They use all the best ingredients in their kits, including award-winning local flour, Belgian chocolate and ground Madagascan vanilla. My box, which you can read about here, contained everything I needed to make chocolate Whoopie Pies. You can choose whether you would like to pay monthly (£8 per box), quarterly (£22/£7.33 per box) or every 6 months (£42/£7 per box). Plus if you use code – ROXIE299 – you can get your first box for just £2.99! You can also unsubscribe at any time.
The Perfect Finishing Touches…
So you’ve found the perfect gift, but how can you personalise it and make it that extra bit special to really get in your mum’s good books? Vanilla Reindeer is an incredibly simple-to-use online (and mobile-friendly) service that helps you to create beautiful personalised gifts that are sure to make your mum giggle this Mother’s Day. You can actually incorporate your silliest selfies and family photos into their high-quality designs. You can create a personalised box of truffles, a selection of gift bags (in a range of sizes), cards and bottle bags, all delivered directly to your friends, family and loved one’s doors.
I absolutely adore the box of chocolates that I personalised to celebrate mine and Poppy’s first Mother’s Day together. The image is so clear and crisp and I love that I could add my own message. It’s very sturdy and as soon as the delicious truffles have been devoured, I will definitely keep it to store other bits and bobs in. As for the gift bag, the photo I used was very old and I was really worried it would come out blurry, but I love the finished product! I can’t wait to see my mum’s face when she receives it. Both the box and bag are made from thick cardboard, which means they won’t be easily ripped or damaged, plus there are lots of cheeky designs to choose from too. As well as gift wrap, Vanilla Reindeer is a one-stop-shop, meaning that you can also purchase branded confectionary, alcoholic beverages including wine, champagne and gin, and even toiletry sets on their website too!
