Revolution has recently launched a new collection of base products designed to provide a mattifying solution for oily, blemish-prone complexions. The range includes a vegan-friendly foundation, stick concealer and powder with prices starting at just £3. The Matte Base Pore Blurring Full Coverage Foundation retails for £5 and is my favourite product of the trio. It’s currently available in 24 shades with F0.5 being the lightest. It’s very thick and dries incredibly quickly. My favourite way to apply this foundation is to first apply a hydrating and slightly tacky primer such as Soap & Glory’s One Heck of a Blot; otherwise, it clings to thirsty patches and highlights any texture. I also swap my trusty Beauty Blender for a densely packed kabuki-style brush and buff it quickly before it sets. The foundation is full coverage, so it doesn’t exactly ‘blur’ pores as the name suggests, it straight up covers them. It’s undoubtedly very matte, so it’s obviously a no-go for dry skin. It’s so matte I don’t even need to apply setting powder afterwards. It covers all my blemishes, pores and discolouration and lasts well throughout the day.
I haven’t bought a concealer stick in years, and now I remember why. The Matte Base Concealer just isn’t for me. It’s a touch too dry, so drags and moves my foundation underneath when I try to apply it. It doesn’t blend very easily and gives my undereye area an aged crepe-like texture. Plus, it doesn’t fully cover my dark circles either. The stick applicator would make it a good product for cream contouring… if it had a creamier formula. Plus, it’s so big you can’t get close to the eye area either. If you’re looking for ‘drugstore’ matte concealer with more coverage, I recommend giving the e.l.f. 16hr Camo Camouflage Concealer a try instead.
The Revolution Matte Base Powder in P1 (fair with pink undertones) is a standard lightweight powder perfect for popping in your handbag for touching up in greasy/shiny moments throughout the day. It reminds me of my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, a cult classic that I’ve purchased countless times over the years. It has a hint of colour but it’s not too chalky, ashy or orange. It looks like a square of white chocolate in the pan and for only £3 you really can’t go wrong. The powder is also available in translucent.
