ColourPop’s first ever mascara has finally arrived! It was released the day AFTER I ordered my Mystery Bag and I was devasted that I’d missed out. I considered making another order, however, I’m glad I waited because, little did I know, the ColourPop Gods had already popped one inside my bag. The BFF Volumizing Mascara is currently available in seven shades: Black on Black, Blue Ya Mind, Kiss n’ Teal, Left on Red, Pink INC., Purple Prose and Yellow Goodbye. They retail for $8 each or you can purchase a bundle set containing all seven shades for $50. If you want to see all seven shades in action, check out one of my favourite YouTubers, Jkissa, try on the entire collection here.
I find it funny that coloured mascara is apparently a trend for 2019. I love to see people stepping out the box and playing with colour but I’m personally getting serious 90s vibes from this collection. I guess that’s just showing my age. What’s next? Hair mascaras and body glitter? Anyway, skip 20 years later and there’s definitely a gap in the market. The mascara comes in a pastel box and the lid is decorated in what looks like scribbles you’d find on the outside of a classroom jotter which is a cute touch. The tube feels very chunky compared to others in my collection and contains 7g of product which is pretty standard. The packaging is the same for all seven shades apart from a sticker on the base identifying the colour inside. The wand has thick bushy fibres and is curved into an hourglass shape. It picks up a lot of product, perhaps a little too much. It’s one of those mascaras that you really have to work through your lashes to apply an even coat. It is buildable but you can risk the dreaded ‘spider leg’ look if you pile it on too thickly.
It adds length and volume whilst separating and defining each lash. I’m a huge fan, it’s one of the best ‘drugstore’ mascaras I’ve ever tried. It reminds me of the Essence Rock ‘n’ Doll XXXL Crazy Volume Mascara. It lifts my lashes and keeps them looking full and luscious all day long. I do find that there is a little flaking at the tips after the 8-hour mark which is to be expected because I really like to layer my mascara on. If you’d like to try ColourPop but are worried about international shipping and customs fees check my previous post here which breaks down the whole process.
