When I saw on Twitter that ColourPop was releasing a limited edition mystery bag for $25, I was very sceptical. I’ve always thought of these ‘mystery’ style goodie bags as nothing more than a ploy for brands to shift products that aren’t selling well or unpopular shades. My curiosity, as you’ve probably already figured out, got the better than me. I found a promo code online for $10 off and made an order. There have been changes to the way their products are shipped to the UK since my last order. Instead of paying a random custom charge to release your delivery from the Post Office, you now pay the custom tax upfront so there’s no uncertainty or additional fees to worry about.
I know that some people can be a little confused about the shipping process, so let’s quickly breakdown my order: the mystery bag was $25, I had a promo code for $10 off, I paid $9.99 shipping (this is free if you spend over $50) and I paid $6 in taxes. My order was $31 which worked out to about £24. I ordered the bag on the 21st and it arrived on the 28th. So… was it actually worth the money?
I wasn’t for a second expecting to receive any new products in my bag, so you can imagine my excitement to find the ColourPop BFF Volumizing Mascara (worth $8) inside! This launched the day AFTER I made my order, so it was a fantastic surprise, plus it’s in black! Their new collection of mascaras come in vibrant pink, purple and green shades so I was so relieved to see ‘Black on Black’ on the sticker. There were also four lip products inside including: a Lippie Stix in Ziggie ($5.50), Ultra Blotted Lip in Doozy ($6), Ultra Glossy Lip in Champagne Mami ($6) and Blur Lux Lipstick in Solo ($7). I’ve not tried the Ultra Blotted Lip or the new Blur Lux Lipstick formula so I was really happy to see both of these pop up in wearable shades. I’m also glad that there were no Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks inside, because I find the really drying and uncomfortable.
There was also a Super Shock Highlighter (worth $8) in shade ‘Mr Wind’, a pale coral shade with a lovely silver sheen from their holiday collection. There was one Pressed Powder Shadow in Shake Eyes ($4) and two Super Shock Eyeshadows ($5 each). I love the Super Shock Eyeshadow formula, if you’re wanting to make a ColourPop order but not sure where to start, I highly recommend you pick up a few of these – you won’t be disappointed! I received the shades Party of Five (a warm burgundy with a multi-coloured duochrome glitter) and Sequin (rosy penny copper with multi-dimensional glitter). The shades are beautiful and richly pigmented. I actually received the shade Sequin in the Polite AF Super Shock Shadow Kit I purchased last year, so if you’d like to get your hands on it and finally get a taste of what all the fuss is about, feel free to enter my giveaway down below. I added all the products together and came to a total of $54.50, which is really impressive. The fact that all the shades are wearable and there was a brand new product inside is also a wonderful bonus. I think you’ll agree that four lip products, three eyeshadows, a highlighter and a mascara for just £24 is amazing value and I couldn’t be happier that my gamble paid off.
