Drew Barrymore’s cruelty-free makeup brand Flower Beauty has finally arrived in the UK and is now available exclusively at Superdrug. I’ve wanted to try Drew’s makeup brand ever since she did the rounds last year on Tati and NikkieTutorial’s channels promoting the collection’s launch at Ulta. She doesn’t come across as your typical Hollywood starlet in interviews. She’s effortlessly beautiful and relatable, the kind of girl you can see yourself grabbing a pint with. I’ve been a fan of hers ever since I saw Never Been Kissed, which I just realised was almost 20 years ago… so that’s pretty terrifying.
Superdrug doesn’t carry the full collection or shade range quite yet, however, it does contain a few essentials to give you a good feel for what the brand is about. Superdrug currently stock their illuminating foundation, full-coverage concealer, matte liquid lipstick, highlighter palette, setting spray, three primers (minimising, hydrating and ‘celestial’) and finally the Lift & Sculpt Contour Palette. Prices range from £7.99 – £14.99. When I think of Drew’s makeup I think of girl-next-door rosy cheeks, bushy brows and natural-looking dewy skin and this seems to be a good reflection of what the brand promises to deliver.
Is it me or does the packaging look a little outdated? I’m on the fence about it, to be honest. Currently, this palette is only available in one shade, ‘light-medium’. All three work perfectly with my pale skin tone. The blusher is very pigmented with a lot of fallout, so I suggest you go in with your brush very gently. One tap is all you need to add a healthy flush of colour to your cheeks. It looks a bit intimidating in the pan and isn’t a shade I’d normally purchase as I gravitate towards more muted rose type shades, however, it’s actually really pretty and easy to blend. The matte bronzer is also very soft and buttery. It’s buildable and adds a subtle warmth to the skin without looking too orange or muddy. The highlighter is a champagne shade that is surprisingly pigmented. It’s not glittery but adds a beautiful glow that I struggled to capture on camera.
This trio of powers couldn’t be easier to use and is an impressive introduction to Flower Beauty. All three work perfectly with my pale skin and, despite the simple and rather cheap looking packaging, the product inside feels very high-quality. It does make me sigh that when you visit the brand’s page to be greeted with a quote from Drew that states, “Beauty is for everyone” because the selection of shades currently available definitely doesn’t cater to everyone. Fingers crossed for a more inclusive range of products and shades to drop soon, as I’m looking forward to finding out what else Flower Beauty has to offer.
The Flower Beauty Lift & Sculpt Contour Palette retails for £14.99 and is available to purchase here.
