The Original Beautyblender | Sweet Surprise Mystery Blind Bag

It’s no startling revelation that I love makeup and spend way too much time scrolling through the ‘What’s New’ pages of Beauty Bay, Cult Beauty and Space NK. I’m also constantly searching for online promo codes to financially back my addiction. I love experimenting and discovering new brands and products and often switch up my skincare and makeup routine. There are, however, a handful of products I find myself repurchasing time and time again. These are my holy grail beauty products and they include the Urban Decay All Nighter, Bobbi Brown Face Base, YSL All Hours Foundation, Carmex Lip Balm, The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter and Tarte Shape Tape. My number one most loved and most used beauty discovery is undoubtedly, the original Beautyblender.

I received my first ever sponge as a gift for subscribing to Birchbox over three years ago. Back then I had no idea how iconic it would become. I can’t recall another makeup tool that has had such an impact on the beauty community. This little pink egg has become iconic and, sorry to sound dramatic, literally changed my entire makeup game. No makeup tool blends my foundation and concealer as flawlessly as my Beautyblender does. I reach for it literally every day.

Invented by Hollywood makeup artists Ann Silva and Veronica Lorenz, the egg shape is designed to help tackle hard to reach areas and achieve a professional and flawless finish. The surface of sponge has an almost suede-like texture and is latex and odour free. Simply wet it, squeeze out the excess water and ‘bounce’ your foundation across your face. At first, it was such an odd sensation to apply my foundation with a wet sponge and I was very apprehensive, but the results speak for themselves.

The super soft ‘point’ of the egg makes blending effortless and the spherical shape prevents streaks and lines forming. Yes, it does soak up more product than a traditional makeup brush does but in my opinion its completely worth it for the flawless and coverage it provides. It also dramatically cuts down application time and gets the very best out of my foundation. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve purchased a number of very convincing dupes over the years, however, none of them have impressed me as much as the original Beautyblender and I honestly believe that it’s worth the investment.

Beautyblender has a number of candy-inspired treats and gift sets available this Christmas. The Original Beautyblender retails for £17 but I purchased the Sweet Surprise Mystery Blind Bag from Beauty Bay here for only £17.50 with free delivery. The little set is beautifully packaged and contains one of four Beautyblenders hues: Original (pink), Joy (sunshine yellow), Chill (turquoise) or a rare mystery colour. There’s an 11/24 chance of opening the bag inside to find the Original, a 6/14 chance of finding Joy and Chill and a 1/24 chance of finding the rare version. Your little pink box also contains a mini blendercleanser solid swirl to help clean your sponge. This is a fantastic stocking filler for any makeup lover. If you’re already a fan of the Beautyblender you’re sure to love the cute packaging and novelty aspect of this set and if you’re a newbie, it’s a brilliant way to finally try the world’s most talked about makeup tool.
