This may have been the worst summer ever to be heavily pregnant, however, even I can appreciate the glorious sunshine we’ve been experiencing. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer, but it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated, protected, and, of course, to make sure that you’re topped up on setting spray, icy treats and BBQ essentials; especially if you have a young family.

This summer we’ve gone through many, many, many bottles of suncream including the fun but rather expensive Evy Technology Sunscreen Mousse to the more affordable family-friendly offerings from Altruist Dermatologist and Solero which I highly recommend. Penny has also loved wearing the adorable turquoise and fuchsia Agrimonia Smock Romper from La Coqueta. The bold floral design and butterfly sleeves are just as sweet as the little lady wearing it. The leg holes are elasticated to ensure a comfortable fit and there are buttons between the legs to ensure easy nappy access. As well as using high-quality suncare products, this summer LloydsPharmacy give the following advice about how you can stay safe in the sun and get the best protection from your sunscreen:
- Apply sunscreen liberally approximately 30 minutes before exposure to the sun so that it is properly absorbed by the skin
- Re-apply at least every 2 hours to maintain protection and after swimming, exercise, perspiring or toweling
- Avoid sunbathing between 11am – 3pm when UVB is at its strongest
- Avoid getting sunburn and cover up or seek shade wherever possible
- Check regularly for any unusual skin growths or changes to moles or freckles, and report them to your GP
