XO Balm | Natural Care for Poor Stressed-Out Skin

First things first, how adorable is the packaging of today’s product?! I mean, how can you not fall in love with the design of this little pot? Not only is it as cute as a button (sorry) but there is also a hidden mirror inside and a scoop, plus it was specifically designed to fit through a postbox, enabling XO Balm to offer free shipping in the UK. XO Balm aims to be as environmentally-friendly as possible; the cardboard is completely recyclable, the packing material is simply shredded waste paper, all transactional information is sent online to avoid unnecessary printing, and the aluminium tins are designed to be reused. They really have thought of everything.

XO Balm | Natural Care for Poor Stressed-Out Skin

XO Balm is a multipurpose natural remedy for a whole heap of skincare concerns and has become a handbag must-have over the past couple of weeks since it was very kindly sent to me. So what’s inside? XO Balm contains a simple, but effective, four-ingredient formula, free from anything synthetic to keep skin calm, healthy and happy.

“Coconut oil:

Coconut oil contains fatty acids to prevent moisture loss from the skin and keep it plump. A great source of vitamin E which improves elasticity to protects against premature ageing and general wear and tear. Rich in Capric, Caprylic, Lauric acids which are microbial to keep skin healthy and clean. While proteins keep skin and hair healthy and rejuvenated.

Beeswax:

Beeswax acts as a protective and breathable layer; it locks in moisture and protects skin from damaging environmental factors. It has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties which are ideal for fighting chapped skin and bacterial infections. Contains vitamin A which is proven to reduce wrinkles and age spots, support the turnover and reconstruction of skin cells. It is hypoallergenic and acts as a natural water-resistant barrier.

Olive Oil:

Olive oil has an occlusive and emollient effect; preventing moisture loss and drawing in moisture to the skin. Polyphenols and Phytosterols deliver antioxidant protection and promote the production of collagen. It contains Oleic acid which helps to soften the skin, while Vitamin A and C protect from free radicals and environmental factors. It is rich in fat-soluble vitamin E which has a lipophilic nature and can be easily absorbed.

Chia seed oil:

Chia oil is the richest source of botanical fatty acids (including Omega 3 and 6) known to man, which are anti-inflammatory and perfect for maintaining healthy skin cell membranes. A unique antioxidant blend of Chlorogenic acid and Caffeic acid, Myricetin, Quercetin and Kaempferol flavonoids protects from free radicals. Vitamin B3 and Zinc, help with oily skin and clogged pores. Phosphorous is an essential mineral for protein synthesis, which promotes and accelerates cell repair and regeneration. Sulphur and amino acids, strengthen cell membranes which keep away irritants and toxins and allows in water and nutrients, for healthy skin cells.”

I mostly use the balm to soothe my lips. They are incredibly sensitive and become dry and cracked in very cold AND hot conditions. They are a constant source of annoyance and no matter how much water I drink, they always look sore and dehydrated. XO Balm gives me instant relief from any discomfort they might cause. The balm makes them feel softer and plumper whilst forming a lightweight barrier to protect them from the elements. It also has a matte finish, so it doesn’t look like you’re wearing anything, plus there’s no greasy or slippery texture to worry about.

The possibilities and uses for this natural balm are endless. A light layer can be used as a primer as makeup clings to the beeswax, it can be used on your hair to help protect against dry ends, it can be used to help calm nappy rash and irritated skin, it provides relief for eczema suffers, it nourishes your nails and cuticles, helps soothe shaving rashes and even tame wispy beards.

Each of XO Balm’s ingredients has fantastic benefits for the hair and skin, but combined together they deliver a unique blend of hydration, protection and nourishment. They haven’t sacrificed the efficiency of the product by adding synthetic fragrances, the scent is only of the natural beeswax and oils to avoid stressing the skin. If all that wasn’t amazing enough, XO Balm also supports local UK businesses, with packaging components, ingredients, testing and manufacturing all sourced from smaller UK suppliers. They are also an ongoing supporter of the Oxfordshire charity Give Bees a Chance, whose work allows healthy bee populations to live and grow.

XO Balm retails for £12.50 for 45g (a little goes a long way) and is available to purchase here.
