Proto-col Natural Mineral Cosmetics | Baked Mineral Colour Correct

Recently I was sent a lovely package full of goodies from Proto-col, a beauty brand that specialises in natural mineral cosmetics and naturally advanced skincare. One unusual, but beautiful, product from their collection really surprised me, it’s unlike anything I’ve tried before. The Baked Mineral Colour Correct was developed alongside top UK make-up artists and designed to combat the appearance of blemishes, redness and freshen tired looking skin…

Proto-col is a British beauty brand based in Bradford-on-Avon. The company launched back in 2003 with just one product, Proto-col Pure Collagen Capsules, which still remain one of their bestselling products. Proto-col, has since expanded their collection with over seventy additional products including mineral foundations, body scrubs and their upcoming launch, the Intense Protection Day Moisturiser with SPF 50 (review coming soon). Proto-col state on their official website that they believe in “producing products which deliver luxury formulations, made with the best quality ingredients at affordable prices.”

Even though it proved incredibly difficult to photograph, I love the packaging. The pressed powder comes in a metallic pink box and inside, the chrome compact has a mirror-like reflective surface. In the pan, the baked powder contains swirls of lilac, turquoise and white pigments. It resembles the clouds and storms on the surface of a distant planet. It really is quite pretty and unique looking.

The Proto-col Baked Mineral Colour Correct is perfect for ‘no-makeup make-up’ days. It’s been an especially handy addition to my handbag during the heatwave. I can’t stand being overly caked in makeup when the weather is hot, sticky and humid but I still like to wear a light base to even out my skin tone and help reduce shine. This powder contains finely milled pastel minerals that counteract your natural skin tones.

  • Pink – corrects dull, sallow skin
  • Lilac – balances yellow tones
  • Yellow – balances out pinky tones and conceals under-eye circles and brightens the skin
  • Green – tones down redness and conceals blemishes, broken veins and blotchiness

Colour correcting isn’t a step I usually bother with but I was truly taken back by how effective this powder is. It really has become a hidden gem in my makeup collection. At first, I thought it was going to apply slightly chalky, however, it acts like a translucent powder and immediately gets to work softening unwanted pigmentation around my nose and chin, softening the appearance of acne scars and controlling shine. It doesn’t sit on top of your skin or settle into creases, on the contrary, it seems to melt into the skin flawlessly.

I don’t have much experience with mineral makeup or colour correcting, however, I love how this powder restores balance to my skin without making it look flat and dull. It’s simple to use, simply buff into the skin with a brush. You can also use it with or without additional makeup and take it with you for top-ups throughout the day to control shine which, especially in this heat, is a bit of a godsend.

The Proto-col Baked Mineral Colour Correct retails for £27.95/9g, is suitable for all skin types and is available to purchase here.
