“Experience the luxury, opulence and style of the golden age of travel at The Grand Hotel & Spa, housed in the iconic former headquarters of the North Eastern Railway Company. History and heritage combine with everything a modern traveller could wish for in this iconic Edwardian building.”
To celebrate the Queen’s Birthday I was sent a delightful bundle of afternoon tea themed goodies from the lovely people at the The Grand Hotel York*. The Grand Hotel York prides itself on providing a five-star dining experience complete with handcrafted cakes, pastries and sweet treats carefully placed on silver stands, served by attentive staff, in a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful views of the historic City Wall of York.
There’s something so special about getting together with loved ones to sample tiny delicacies and the spectacular architecture and tranquil surroundings of York’s first 5-star hotel (and the only AA five-star rated hotel) is sure to make the whole experience that bit more luxurious. The Grand Hotel York offers a number of different packages including the original Grand Afternoon Tea, a children’s version designed specifically for little ones and even a whimsical Alice in Wonderland themed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. There’s even ‘Hendrick’s Tipsy G&Tea’ package for the grown-ups!
Inside the wicker hamper I was very kindly sent was a pretty pink box of heavenly macaroons from Betty’s, a selection of quintessentially English mini jams and chutneys from Wilkin & Sons, a tin of Fortnum & Mason Royal Blend Silk Tea Bags, a bag of Highgrove Organic Clotted Cream Fudge and a Yorkshire Tea Loaf packed with raisins, sultanas and cherries. Can you believe that I’d never tired a macaroon before? These rainbow coloured delights were so delicate and pretty, they definitely didn’t last long! The tea loaf was incredibly fruity and moist too.
