DHC (which stands for Daigaku Honyaku Center) is Japan’s No. 1 skincare company and their UK subsidiary very kindly sent me a box full of their bestselling products including their iconic Deep Cleansing Oil, Face Wash Powder, Liquid Eyeliner EX and Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection. I’ve already spoken about my love for the liner (here). I’ve been loyal to my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner for years but the Liquid Eyeliner EX took me by surprise. It’s the most pigmented and easy to use liner I’ve ever used. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I couldn’t wait to find out what else DHC had to offer…
I was sent two skincare products: the Deep Cleansing Oil and Face Wash Powder. The Face Wash Powder (£10.50 | 50g) is very similar to the Illuma Exfoliating Powder I tried last year, but without the overpowering scent and hefty price tag. The protease enzymes inside help to dissolve dead skin cells and the lavender flower extract gently calms the skin to help avoid any irritation. Simply wet your face, pour a little into your hand, lather and gently massage into your face. The water transforms the powder into a lather that removes makeup and leaves skin feeling incredibly soft. The packaging is very basic but the baby blue bottle barely weighs a thing which makes it perfect for travelling with.
The Deep Cleansing Oil is perhaps DHC’s most iconic product. This award-winning makeup remover is suitable for all skin types and is available in three sizes 30ml/£4.50, 70ml/£12.50 and 200ml/£24. I have combination skin and at first, I was wary of adding oil-based products to my skincare routine but I’ve come to realise that ironically enough, they are exactly what my skin needs. My all-time favourite is the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil (here) but the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil has served as a fabulous and more affordable alternative these past few months. Whilst I’m not overly keen on the scent, it is very effective at removing make-up, dirt and excess oil without making my skin feel greasy. It dissolves quickly without leaving any residue and the rich blend of rosemary leaf oil and hydrating olive oil leaves skin feeling plump, nourished and clean. Together these products make for the perfect double cleanse.
I’ve been using the DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection (£15.90) on and off for the last two months, but only on my bottom lashes. We all look for certain things in a mascara and I want dramatic volume. This isn’t the mascara for that. It gives my lashes a pretty curl that leaves them looking soft, subtly defined and fluttery. The wand is tiny which makes the mascara perfect for my lower lashes. It defines and separates each hard-to-reach lash perfectly. What I really love about it is how it doesn’t smudge and how it contains innovative tubing technology which encases lashes in easy-to-remove polymer tubes. It’s the easiest mascara I’ve ever tried to remove.
