I’ve tried my fair share of liquid lipsticks over the years and unfortunately many of them have ended up in the bin. My lips are unbelievably sensitive and I can tell within seconds if a lipstick formula is going to irritate them. At first, I get a tingly sensation similar to a plumping lip treatment would give, which is bearable, however, that swiftly turns into a burning sensation. They become red, swollen and then they eventually crack and blister a few days after. As much I love the overall look of a matte lip these formulas seem to be the most unforgiving. So far the ColourPop Ultra Matte, Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid and the Tanya Burr Martha matte liquid lipsticks have been the worst offenders. I might be allergic to something but I can’t figure out what ingredient it could be. If you suffer from the same issue I definitely recommend giving either the Jouer Lip Creme or the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection a try…
I’ve tried a number of shades from the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection including Bow N Arrow, Double Dare and, their bestselling shade, Lolita, however, these have all been deluxe samples from beauty boxes and gift sets. I have a few of her Studded Lipsticks (here) which I highly recommend too, but if you’re looking for a lip product with serious staying power, the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection can’t be beaten.
Lolita II is described as a terracotta nude whereas it’s sister shade, Lolita, is a chestnut rose. On second thoughts, I probably should have gone for a slightly more subtle shade, although I’m trying to push myself to experiment with colour more in 2018. The lipstick applies like a cream but completely dries down. It sets on lips comfortably without leaving your lips feeling caked in product and without cracking. It can settle into lines so I would use a lip scrub beforehand, but I’d do that with any matte product. I was certain Lolita II was going to apply streakily and need two coats, as darker shades tend to do. However, even though Lolita II is incredibly intense (they weren’t kidding when they say high pigment) it glides on effortlessly without any patchiness.
This lipstick collection is called ‘Everlasting’ for a reason. It does not budge. Obviously, this has its pros and cons. You need to take your time when applying to make sure you stay in your lip line as it’s a pain to try and clean up afterwards, although Kat has just released a collection of ‘Everlasting’ lipliners which correspond with her lipstick shades that also wear for 24 hours. Lolita II will seriously stay on your lips all day and look flawless.
The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II is available at Debenhams and retails for £17/6.6ml.
