Influenster UK | Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Eye Crayon VoxBox

Recently I signed up to Influenster, an online community where members share product reviews and also have the opportunity to join campaigns and receive beauty products in the form of a themed VoxBox. I had seen previous collaborations with Bourjois and Max Factor across Instagram and was so excited to be part of the Influenster UK community and possibly try some new products. I simply created an account and filled in a few surveys, mostly about my social media presence, and then waited a couple of months until I received an email which informed me I had been accepted on to the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon campaign in collaboration with John Lewis.

Influenster is clear from the very start that you are required to share your photos and honest review of the products and disclose on ALL posts that you received the products as a complimentary gift. They are very concerned with transparency when it comes to how you received the products and, as a consumer and blogger, I really appreciate this kind of honest, straightforward way of thinking.

I was sent two shades of the new Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon which retail for £20 each. When I found out I had been accepted on to a Marc Jacobs campaign I literally squealed with delight, as I have just recently fallen head-over-heels with his Velvet Noir Volume Mascara. I have to admit though, the shades I received are a little ‘out there’ for my personal taste. There are currently 12 vivid shades available and my box contained 57 Deja Blue (pastel blue) and 59 Pink of Me (baby powder pink).

This product is a new twist on the original award-winning Highliner Gel Eye Crayon but with a bold matte formula.  As the shades I received were pastels, I wasn’t really expecting them to have the same intense colour pay-off as say a black or dark brown eyeliner would. I’m pleased to report that I completely misjudged them! I was blown away by the super-rich pigment of these shades. The formula is also so creamy that they apply effortlessly. They virtually melt on to your eye without any tugging or dragging. Once they set they are completely waterproof and budge-proof. These are the longest lasting eyeliners I have ever tried; I’m talking 12-hour wear with no fading or creasing.

I appreciate that the shades I received are more suitable for a graphic editorial look rather than wearing to pop down the high street for a pint of milk, but there’s no denying that they are beautiful nonetheless. Whilst I won’t get a huge amount of wear out of Deja Blue and Pink of Me, they have convinced me that I need their darker shades in my collection. It’s also worth noting that the eye crayons are self-sharpening and have the colour of the shade wrapped around the base of the product to easily identify them, which are two little touches I really appreciate.
