In my opinion, a cult classic beauty product must not only be a bestseller but must also stand the test of time. I believe that the original Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact is iconic and completely lives up to the hype. I hold it in the same esteem as the award-winning Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream and Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat. It feels like it has been a handbag essential for decades. There are, of course, many dupes available such as those from The Body Shop, Soap & Glory and Makeup Revolution, however, the square pan with five strips of luminous beauty is synonymous with the Bobbi Brown brand.
There are currently five shades available: Bronze, Pink Quartz, Beige, Nectar and Rose. All five versions are handmade in Italy and contain superfine pigments that are designed to reflect radiance and capture light. Each Shimmer Brick comes in the same sophisticated black compact we’ve all came to know and love, with a mirror inside. The Shimmer Bricks contain five shades that are designed to work harmoniously together but can also be used individually as eyeshadows.
Does anyone else find it heartbreaking to blend these all together with your blush brush? This is one product that looks beautiful in the pan untouched, but once it has been used for a few short days the colours soon bleed into one another making all the beautiful shades less defined, which is why I have never personally used them individually. Below I have swatched the shades Rose and Bronze. As much as I love a blinding Instagram-worthy highlight or anything beautifully packaged and holographic, I see the Shimmer Brick as a bronzer/blush/highlighter hybrid, a multi-purpose skin perfector, that gives the skin a natural glow that is universally flattering and timeless.
The Shimmer Bricks blend flawlessly to add a delicate glow that can be built up as desired. They are incredibly versatile which is why they have stood the test of time and have remained a fan favourite despite ever-changing trends in the beauty industry. As £35 each, they aren’t inexpensive but they are an investment which will last you a long time, if not a lifetime. Bobbi Brown did have a limited edition Shimmer Brick Palette with multiple shades and full sized pans available as part of their 2016 collection I believe, so fingers crossed this will make a return. The Shimmer Bricks are also available at QVC.com and are often part of Easy Payment promotions that allow you to spread the cost.
