I’m sorry for the essence overload, I’m not sure how it happened! I promise to be more organised in 2018 and plan my posts a little better. I have a post scheduled for New Year’s Day that lists all my favourite makeup products of 2017 and I had to mention this mascara, so I thought I better pop up a detailed review to let you know why. I think I first saw this mascara on Tati’s (GlamLifeGuru) YouTube channel and picked it up during a mini Wilko haul, where I also bought the Essence Camouflage Full Coverage Concealer in Ivory 05 (FYI this also makes an appearance on my best of 2017 post – so good). The Rock ‘n’ Doll Crazy XXXL Volume Mascara seriously impressed me this year and here’s why…
When it comes to drugstore mascaras there has only been a handful that has impressed me this year. I wasn’t overly excited about L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise and the Rimmel London Volume Shake Mascara was a little on the gimmicky side. With the launch of UD’s Troublemaker and Lancome’s Monsieur Big Mascara, there hasn’t really been any drugstore equivalents that have grabbed my attention. For only £2.80, I wasn’t expecting amazing things from the Rock ‘n’ Doll Crazy XXXL Volume Mascara, but my lashes absolutely adore it, even more so than UD’s Troublemaker. Now also available in Ultra Black, the original adds dramatic volume and length without clumping or transferring throughout the day. The only drawback is the brush, it’s so large it can get a little messy when trying to coat your bottom lashes but I personally always use my DHC Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection for mine anyway.
It creates a stunning eye-opening effect that rivals a few of my high-end mascaras and is one of the best drugstore mascaras I have ever tried and one of the most affordable. The results below speak for themselves. I’m sorry I haven’t included a before photo but one is available on my Troublemaker review here. They are very fair and sparse, and Rock ‘n’ Doll definitely brings the drama. Unfortunately, I found that after a couple month’s use my tube, for whatever reason, lost suction and didn’t grab hold of the brush to wipe excess product off like it used too. Therefore my brush ended up covered with too much product which made application messy and difficult to control. I found that wiping any excess off on a face wipe worked, but for £2.80 I wasn’t too bothered about replacing it. I’ve not encountered the same problem yet so perhaps it was a faulty tube but I thought I’d give you a heads up anyway. If anything, it reminded me to replace my mascara regularly and adhere to use by dates, something that I’m guilty of not doing very often.
For £2.80 (I still can’t get over the price) this mascara is seriously impressive and one of my favourite buys of 2017. If you’re looking for a product that gives your lashes instant volume, is easy to remove at the end of the day and you’re on a tight budget, I highly recommend you try the Rock ‘n’ Doll Crazy XXXL Volume Mascara from Essence.
