YouTube Made Me Buy It | Makeup Worth The Hype

Often beauty brands work with a number ‘influencers’ on YouTube at the one time, showering them with gifted items, sponsorships and even holidays. Whilst I have absolutely no problem with that (as long as the collaboration is authentic, declared and relevant to their channel), it can be a little difficult to decide whether to believe the hype or not. Just because a product has been plastered all over YouTube or Instagram doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a good product, believe me, I’ve been burnt before. Here are five products that YouTube ‘made me’ buy that were 100% worth the hype.

Before Juvia’s Place was stocked at Beauty Bay, I actually used a packaging forward company to ship this palette to the UK using NikkieTutorials affiliate code to save a few dollars. It took a long time to arrive but, thankfully, the Nubian Palette was worth the wait. It contains 4 transition mattes and 8 shimmery pearls and the pigmentation is what dreams are made of. I had to admit that before I started watching Jeffree Star’s videos many years ago (when I was completely oblivious to his shady past I may add) I didn’t understand the obsession with setting spray. Since the day I purchased Urban Decay’s All Nighter there has always been a bottle of it on my dressing table. It’s simply the best setting spray I have ever used and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The same can be said of Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. Funnily enough, I actually purchased it after watching one of Stephanie Nicole’s videos. I had previously invested in the eyeshadow base every YouTuber and their cat raves about in Soft Ochre, but nothing seems to make my eyeshadow as vibrant and long-lasting as UD’s Primer Potion.

The YSL All Hours Foundation is a recent launch that I immediately purchased after watching Tati’s (Glam Life Guru) review. It’s now my current favourite high-end foundation. It gives a beautiful, natural-looking matte finish that lasts all day. To read my full thoughts you can visit last month’s review here.

Finally, the hype surrounding this product on YouTube last year was insane. Watch any tutorial from Nikkie, Tati, Manny or Jaclyn and this little tube is bound to pop up at some point, but, you know what, it’s completely 100% deserved. Tarte’s Shape Tape is my most beloved makeup product. This full coverage concealer transforms my undereye area which, as a new mum who starts her shift at 7.30am every morning and doesn’t stop all day, is a huge problem area for me. It’s not cheap, especially when you have to fork out more money on QVC as it’s currently only sold as a set with a sponge, but it’s worth it.
