First of all, sorry this review is a little late! After returning home from our trip away to Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort and finding not a lot to eat in our fridge, we were so excited to tuck into the September Degustabox that was patiently waiting for our return. Last month’s ‘Back to School’ themed box contained treats from Cadbury, Seabrooks and Orangina, so I was excited to see what September’s box had in store for us.
September’s Product of the Month was from Latin American Kitchen by Santa Maria. I received a handy pack of their microwavable Yellow Rice (£1,85) and their Peruvian Garlic & Tomato Sauce (£1.85). Both were absolutely delicious together. I simply fried some chicken strips and we devoured the lot in front of the TV. Such a fuss-free but a filling combination that was ready in minutes with hardly any dishes to clean up afterwards. I love when Degustabox contains full meals like this!
Subscribers actually get to choose whether they’d like to receive alcohol-based products or not. If you opt for the non-alcohol version you will receive this Ramen Noodle Kit (£2.24) that contains noodles, white miso, pastes and seaweed garnish.
As well as store cupboard favourites, from time to time boxes can contain full value vouchers for fresh foods. This month featured a voucher for a full-sized pack of Seriously Spreadable Squares retailing for £1.75. Other literature included recipe cards, promo codes and information leaflets from the brands featured.
There were three types of beverages inside. First up, a full-sized carton of the plant-based milk alternative Dream Rice Quinoa worth £1.60. I don’t think just one person will absolutely love all the product inside, that’s why Degustabox is designed to be shared and enjoyed by the entire family. It’s especially good if you have family members with specific dietary requirements. For example, the box also contains a bottle of Gluten Free Sam Miguel Beer (£2) which I didn’t even know existed. There was also two cans of sparkling Virtue Energy Water (£1.35 each) which contains zero sugar, zero calories and no sweeteners.
Whether you subscribe to a food or beauty box, it’s always great to receive a full-sized product. This huge box of Nestle Cheerios Oat Crisp (£2.49) is sure to be loved by the whole family. It contains a mixture of crunchy oats flakes and Cheerios all in one bowl. Three other cupboard favourites include: Green’s Egg Custard Mix (69p), Knorr Concentrated Stock in Rich Beef (£2.20) and a tin of Wild Planet Albacore Wild Tuna Steaks (£3.49), which is ranked #1 in the US by Greenpeace for sustainability.
Finally, we have my two favourite products. what’s not to love about receiving a full-sized bar of Green & Black’s Velvet Edition Dark Chocolate? This new smooth blend, which contains 70% finest Ghanaian cocoa with Madagascan Vanilla, simply melts in your mouth. It has that rich, slightly bitter edge to it but is still moreish and sweet. The last product is the Mentos Mint Sharing Pouch (£1.19), a refreshing mix of soft peppermint and spearmint chews.
September’s box didn’t have a theme so is a little more discombobulated than previous boxes. I found it a little disappointing as quite a few of these products just aren’t to my taste but nevertheless, my husband devoured most of these products without a moments notice, apart from the chocolate; he knows better than that!
Degustabox is a subscription service that retails for £12.99 a month, this includes delivery. Payment is collected on the 11th of each month, however, there is no commitment, if you decide to cancel just let Degustabox know before the 9th. I also have a discount code – 2RS8F – which gets first-time subscribers £7 off their first box. This means, all this could be yours for only £5.99.
