Well, makeup just doesn’t get any prettier than this. Having a new eyeshadow palette to play about with is exciting at the best of times, but this whimsical limited edition My Little Pony x ColourPop collaboration is truly something special. It’s completely over the top and I love it! It also came with a cute sticker sheet too. The full collection features a brush set, makeup bag, 6 lipsticks (3 gloss and 3 mattes), 3 Super Shock Eyeshadows and two pressed powder highlighters. There are also two bundles available, including the full PR collection which also comes with a My Little Pony tote bag for $135.
ColourPop have really nailed this collection. If you’re going to do a My little Pony collaboration what’s the point of doing it half-heartedly? When I think back to one of my favourite childhood cartoons I think rainbows, glitter, magic, and over-the-top girliness and that’s what ColourPop have delivered. Yes, on the outside this could be mistaken for children’s makeup but, somehow, they’ve actually managed to make this collection of shades surprisingly wearable and utterly adorable.
The My Little Pony Eyeshadow Palette is cruelty-free and retails for $16. As with ColourPop’s previous palettes including ‘Yes, Please!’ and ‘I Think I Love You’, the packaging consists of a slim cardboard palette with a magnetic fastening and the shade names listed on the back. The packaging is beautiful but basic (there’s no mirror) but for $16 costs have to be cut somewhere and I personally prefer that ColourPop sacrifices the outer packaging and concentrates on the formula of the actual eyeshadows. Inside you will find 12 breathtaking shades which include shimmery glitters, transition mattes and beautiful metallics with duochrome finishes.
The top row contains Butterscotch (white with subtle pink violet opalescent sheen), Blossom (metallic peach with pink and gold duochrome finish), Starshine (metallic golden tangerine) and Bluebell (satin golden ivory). At first glance, I thought Butterscotch was just a matte white but this palette definitely has a few surprises up it’s sleeve.
On the second row, you’ll find Applejack (matte dusty red-violet), Skydancer (metallic bright icy lavender), Minty (matte cool-toned fuchsia) and Flutterbye (matte true pastel peach). Applejack is definitely one of the patchiest shadows of the bunch but a touch more blending conceals this. It’s worth noting that this palette isn’t as pigmented as ‘Yes, Please!’, but if you wet your brush the metallics (especially Skydancer) are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
The final row contains Twilight (satin deep blackened violet), Firefly (metallic silvery baby blue), Snuzzle (metallic icy white with opalescent blue duochrome) and Princess Sparkle (metallic rich smokey turquoise). As you can probably tell from the swatches, this row contains both the most disappointing shade (Twilight) and most beautiful (Snuzzle).
The fact that ColourPop keeps churning out stunning palettes like this for only $16 each never fails to astound me. The My Little Pony palette was part of a $50 order that I made. I received free international delivery but the customs charges came to £15.80, so it kind of evens itself out when you think about it. I’ve never received any customs charges on the smaller orders I’ve made, but if your order is under $50 you have to pay $9.99 in shipping fees. I know everyone is praying for free international delivery on all orders this Black Friday (24th November), if that’s the case I highly recommend picking up a couple of their palettes if they are in stock and their Super Shock Shadows too. A few of my favourites can be found here.
