There are very few matt products that don’t irritate my lips and most of them are high-end, so I was excited to try the Matt Matt Matt collection from Essence; one of my favourite budget beauty brands. Matt Matt Matt isn’t your typical liquid lipstick formula, it’s actually a whipped mouse lipgloss with a velvet finish. The doe-foot applicator allows precise application and although they need a few coats to become completely opaque, the selection of shades are beautiful and they smell like vanilla butter cream icing – what’s not to love?
They don’t completely dry down which means they feel lightweight and comfortable, plus you avoid the risk of them cracking, however, this means they do transfer a little. The Matt Matt Matt lipstick gives more coverage, glides on very creamy and is definitely longer lasting. This range doesn’t leave my lips tight or dry, they feel soft and hydrated which is a rarity for me, so personally, the longevity isn’t too much of a dealbreaker, plus they retail for only £2.30 each and I’m in love with the selection of shades available.

If you’re over the matte lip trend, Essence also has a range of Shine Shine Shine lipglosses and lipsticks at only £2 and they smell like raspberry ripple ice cream. The smooth texture gives extreme wet-look shine without being sticky or too thick, they actually feel more like a hydrating lip oil. The Sheer and Shine Lipstick formula gives a glistening finish and a subtle flush of colour that leave lips looking plump and juicy. The lipsticks are available in a range of flattering and classic pinks, nudes and browns, plus they come in chic packaging with a translucent cap in the same colour as the lipstick inside, so it’s easy to reach for your favourite shade. Even though I adore the range of shades and the velvet-like finish of the Matt Matt Matte collection, on this occasion I’m on team shine! They are light, non-sticky, nourishing and, surprisingly, long-lasting.
