Why is it when I finally decide to plan a BBQ the heavens immediately open? Fingers crossed for sunny skies this weekend as this month’s Degustabox* was packed with treats including sparkling cloudy cider from Rosie’s Pig, buffalo wing spice mix from Schwartz and two huge bags of Haribo in two limited edition summer-themed flavours; all of which I can’t wait to share with my friends and family. Let’s take a look at my favourite products of the month which are, of course, the share sized bags of Haribo (2x £1 each). At first I thought they were regular bags of Starmix and Tangtastics but I was delighted to find out they had a fruity new twist for summer. They contain the same iconic gummy sweeties but with new flavour and colour combinations. The Starmix contain juicy new berry flavours and the Tangtastics contain ice cream and sorbet flavours.
Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread Scottie Dogs (£1.95) are an adorably shaped treat that no cup of tea should be without. Containing only the finest of ingredients, these buttery biscuits almost melt in your mouth and Penny and I wasted no time at all devouring this entire box in one sitting (oops). Shortbread is not only for Christmas folks.
As well as a few indulgent calorific products this month’s box also contained two deliciously healthy snacks from Light Bites including their Superfood Fruit Bar (£1.25) and Mango with Vanilla Yogurt Fruit Chips (£1.49). Another fruity addition was the Spoon Apple + Peanut Granola (£3.70). This chunky breakfast cereal contains whole roasted peanuts, jumbo oats, coconut chips and baked apple pieces as well as their not-so-secret ingredient, maple syrup. June’s product of the month is Original O’s Savoury Cumin & Sesame Nibbles (£2.99). These bite-sized mini-bagel shaped treats are anything but bland. They have a slight kick to them and are incredibly moreish. Warning, this box will not last long.
My hubby’s favourite products this month are the Schwartz Authentic American Flavour (2 x 85p each) spice mix sachets and the Capsicana Brazillian Chilli & Coconut Quick Cook Sauce (£1.99) – anything that makes cooking stress-free and delicious right? This month customers will receive two easy to use recipe mixes for BBQ Pulled Pork and Spicy Buffalo Wings. The chilli and coconut sauce contains a fragrant blend from Bahia State, north of Rio. Simply cook for 15 minutes with chicken, peppers and onion for a simple midweek dish.
There is an amazing variety of drinks available this month. If you opt for the alcohol-friendly box you will receive two cans of Westons Cider (2 x £1.99 each). Rosie’s Pig Flat Tyre is an award-winning cloudy sparkling cider with rhubarb and the Handbreak variety is a cloudy cider with damson which offers a refreshing and unique fruity taste. If you chose the family-friendly alcohol-free box you will receive a miniature bottle of Eisberg Sauvignon Blanc Alcohol-Free Wine (£1.49). The final two items in BBQ box are the ENRJ – Energy Juice: Mango & Passionfruit and Apple & Berries (£1.75) and Berrywhite Organic Drinks (£1.39).
