Look Fantastic Beauty Box | Get the Glow Edit

The other day my mum accidentally ordered two of the same Look Fantastic beauty box, so I very kindly took one off her hands – I’m nice like that. May’s theme is ‘Get the Glow’ and retails for £13 but is worth over £50. This month’s box is all about getting your glow back in preparation for those warmer months, so be prepared for a lot of tanning products. The Get the Glow Edit contains seven products, the ‘Beauty Box’ magazine packed with tips and tricks and a copy of Elle.

This month’s box contains a full sized Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in either Cream or Peach (3g), James Read Gradual Tan H2o Tan Mist (30ml), Scrub Love Hydrating Coconut Oil Body Scrub (100g), NUFACE Prep-N-Glow Dual Sided Cloth (1 sachet), Glov Hydro Dermaquillage Quick Treat (1 use sachet), System Professional Solar Sun Oil (30ml) and Real Chemistry Luminous 3 Minute Peel (7ml). A nice collection of goodies, but considering this box is supposed to be worth £50 I was a little disappointed (I know that’s cheeky considering this was a freebie, but you get my point) – two of the products were sachets!

I can say without any hesitation that the Baked Eyeshadow by Mellow was my favourite product. I received the shade Cream (groundbreaking) which is a stunning, frosty pale gold which I first mistook for a highlighter. Mellow isn’t a brand I’m familiar with and even though the packaging feels very inexpensive the formula is packed with pigment, smooth, easy to blend and long-lasting. It was love at first swatch. It gives the skin a beautiful iridescent glow but isn’t overly glittery or chunky.

I also loved the 100% natural Scrub Love Hydrating Coconut Oil Body Scrub. The packaging is adorable and I can’t tell you how silky my skin felt after just one application. It hydrates, softens, nourishes and polishes your skin from the very first use. The organic and cruelty-free scrub contains coconut flakes and oil, vitamin E and cranberry oil and fruit powder, so it obviously smells heavenly too. This is the only product I think I’ll purchase again once it’s finished, which will be soon as I can’t help smothering myself in it every time I have a bath. Other varieties include Dark Chocolate, Mint Temptation, Cucumber & Bamboo, Chocolate Orange and Prickly Pear.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3 Minute Peel isn’t a peel but an exfoliating product similar to my Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Peel from The Body Shop. It applies as a gel and then as it is massaged into the skin it solidifies, combining with dead skin cells which are then washed away. It definitely leaves my skin feeling clean, however, it also leaves it a little tight and dry for my liking.

The System Professional Solar Sun Oil is a great product for popping into your hand luggage if you’re off to somewhere tropical and humid this Summer. It instantly makes your hair feel soft and silky whilst eliminating any flyaway hairs and frizziness. It’s blend of UV Filters and luxurious oils promise to restore life into hair exposed to the sun, salt and chlorine.

The James Read Gradual Tan H2o Tan Mist is infused with pure rosewater and claims to give the ultimate gradual tanning experience. As I’m so pale, I stay away from self-tanning products, especially facial tanning treatments. It takes way to long to blend out and never looks natural. This isn’t a product I will use personally but it is travel-friendly and sounds incredibly easy to apply. That’s the thing with beauty boxes as summer approaches, I often find that they become inundated with bronzing products far too rich for my complexion.

The last two products (sachets) are the NUFACE Prep-N-Glow Dual Sided Cloth and Glov Hydro Dermaquillage Quick Treat. The NUFACE cloth is basically a travel-friendly face wipe with a soft side for cleansing and micro-dots on the other for exfoliating. It says these are suitable for all skin types but mine slightly stung afterwards and considering these retail for £9 for a pack of 5 (ouch) I wasn’t very impressed.  The Glov Hydro cloth is reusable for up to 3 months. It is suitable for all skin types and contains fine fibres that remove all make up only with water. It removes the majority of my makeup except for my mascara. Personally, I prefer to use my Kiehl’s Cleansing Oil and a muslin cloth to remove my makeup as it’s more beneficial in the long run.

I have really mixed feelings about this month’s box. The scrub and eyeshadow were phenomenal, the hair oil was okay, the peel is very similar to my BS one, I won’t use the fake tan and the two sachets were way overpriced and were used up almost immediately. The magazine was a nice touch I guess, but if you’re going to do a box that revolves around ‘glowing’, how could you not include a specific highlighting product?

What do you think of May’s box and theme?
