It’s been a long time since I’ve been truly excited to try a skincare brand, but the hype surrounding Deciem aka ‘The Abnormal Beauty Company’ is at an all time high and I couldn’t wait any longer to see what all the fuss was about. Deciem describes itself as ‘a humble and happy umbrella of good beauty brands’. Deciem’s portfolio includes brands such as NIOD, Hylamide, The Chemistry Brand and The Ordinary. The Deciem family caters to every skincare need, to every skin type and every budget.
The Ordinary prides itself on creating clinical formulations with integrity. Their line of treatments contain only the finest of ingredients, are 100% cruelty-free and are against outrageous pricing strategies used to confuse customers. The packaging is simple but I love it. Everything looks so scientific and a little intimidating at first but every product is broken down online and their regime guide (available here) is incredibly helpful. Basically, multiple formulations can be combined to create a personalised skincare routine that targets your concerns.
The High Spreadability Fluid Primer is currently available at Beauty Bay, ASOS, Beauty Chamber and Victoria Health. At only £5.50 a bottle (30ml) this is one of the most affordable and effective primers I own. It may have a complicated name, but at its heart, it’s just an incredible little product that really surprised me. Inside the glass bottle is a clear gel with a serum-like formula that sinks into the skin effortlessly, you could almost forget that you have applied it, it’s so lightweight. It hydrates the skin without leaving an oily coating which is one of the reasons I have fallen in love with it. Plus, my makeup goes on so effortlessly on top. My foundation doesn’t have to try as hard to apply evenly as it already has a smooth, even and seamless base to be applied on top of. My foundation doesn’t grab onto dry patches around my eyes but also doesn’t move around on oily areas such as my chin and nose. It’s a great all-rounder.
My makeup lasts longer too, thanks to the ‘magic’ combination of Advanced Adaptive Silicones – the next generation of Silicones that help makeup adhere to the skin. As good as this primer is, it does leave skin looking dewy and doesn’t blur my pores and imperfections. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t claim to do this, I just personally prefer a matte finish and a little help concealing a few flaws which is why I can’t wait to add their High-Adherence Silicone Primer to my collection too, which, get this, is only £4!
I try not to be a snob when it comes to makeup and skincare, as I know a price tag isn’t necessarily an indicator of how a product will perform but at £5.50 I wasn’t expecting to be this impressed. The Ordinary really puts the pricing strategies of other skincare brands into question.
