Lottie London isn’t a brand I’ve had many experiences with but I have passed their cute display full of pastel makeup brushes and nail polishes many times in Superdrug. I’ve even come close to ordering their Shimmer Squad highlighting quad thanks to SophDoesNails YouTube tutorial as it’s incredibly similar to the ABH Sun Dipped Glow Kit.
Lottie London is a PETA certified, cruelty-free brand that describes itself as being the “home of #trending beauty”. Their collection is influenced by current Instagram trends and includes a number of ABH and Kylie Cosmetics dupes without the designer price tags. Lottie London celebrates everything it means to love makeup in a world immersed in social media by creating affordable makeup as worn by beauty influencers, such as their beautiful Mermaid Glow Rainbow Highlighter, ‘selfie-ready’ foundation and Slay All Day Matte Lipstick Kits.
Their 12-piece Shadow Swatch eyeshadow palettes are available in ‘The Rusts’, ‘The Rainbows’, ‘The Nudes’, ‘The Rose Golds’, and ‘The Smokes’. The clear plastic packaging allows you to quickly identify which shades you need without rummaging through your collection and although it’a made from plastic, it’s not flimsy and closes securely. Each palette comes with a double-sided applicator and the shade names on the back. It’s worth noting that this palette has a slight artificial scent to it which is unusual but not off-putting.
‘The Rusts’ contains five mattes and seven shimmers. I don’t know why but I always compare palettes like this to the UD Naked collection, and while it does contain some similarities to Naked 2, it’s a lot warmer and features richer more coppery tones. Unsurprisingly, I’m not the biggest fan of the brush but I never am. The shadows are easy to work with, they blend easily and are very smooth. The mattes aren’t chalky but require more building than the shimmers as the colour payoff isn’t as intense. The shimmers aren’t chunky and have a beautiful metallic sheen which is even more intense with a damped brush. My only problem with this palette is that it’s so warmed toned that, as I’m so pale, it could do with an additional creamy vanilla base shade so that everything doesn’t become too ‘orangy’ and blends out a little easier. However, this isn’t a deal breaker as I have hundred of these shades in my collection that I can dip into.
I really like this palette, the shades are richly pigmented and the first three that aren’t as intense are buildable. Also, there is very little fallout considering the price tag. When I compare it to the other drugstore palettes in my collection it definitely outperforms my Rimmel Magnifeyes and Maybelline Nudes. It has actually become one of my favourite highstreet palettes along with the Collection Eyes Uncovered and Makeup Revolution Light & Shade and Iconic 2 palettes.
