My ColourPop obsession could quite easily get out of hand. It’s only been a few weeks since I made my last order, but their new Sping’ 17 collection is already calling my name. I first fell in love with the brand after purchasing the Peachy Keen value set that included four of their Super Shock eyeshadows, which you can read all about here. I then went on to try their new pressed powder eyeshadows and was blown away with the pigmentation and selection of shades. If you missed my US beauty review, which also featured a dreamy palette from Juvia’s Place, you can find it here.
If you’re a little worried about purchasing from the US, don’t worry it’s actually a relatively easy process but you do have to be wary of custom fees. I’ve been lucky enough to receive one delivery with none at all and another with just $6 to pay. ColourPop offer free international delivery if your order is over $50, however, if you’re looking to pick up just a few pieces, I recommend looking into a package forwarding company such as MyMallBox.
I’d been wanting to get my hands on one of ColourPop’s highlighters ever since I tried the ‘Super Shock’ formula in the Peach Keen set. Just like the eyeshadows, the highlighter has a soft and bouncy texture to it. It feels slightly like memory foam when you press your finger into it and a bit damp. Due to its unique formula, you are advised to place the lid back on tightly after use as they have a tendency to dry out very quickly.
I picked up the shade Smokin’ Whistles as it was advertised as a “cool-toned pink champagne with silver highlights” and I thought it would flatter my pale skin tone. I was surprised when it arrived as it was a very warm pearlised peachy gold shade, which I wasn’t really expecting from the description.
There’s no denying that it’s a beautiful shade and the colour pay off is unbelievable. It’s difficult to photograph as the pearlescent effect makes the colour change depending on the lighting. The powder (if you can call it that) is so creamy and soft, it glides onto the skin like butter. On the downside, it’s very glittery so I often find a fair amount of fallout down my cheeks. Personally, I prefer a highlighter to ‘glow’ rather ‘shimmer’ so, unfortunately, I find it a little too blinding and glittery for my taste. I also think it’s too warm for my skin tone. It is, however, my favourite inner corner highlight shade as it really makes my eyes pop and sparkle.
The ColourPop Smokin’ Whistles Super Shock Highlighter retails for $5 and is available to purchase here.
