I’m usually such a sucker for pretty packaging but, surprisingly, the only product I’ve ever tried from Too Faced is their Better Than Sex Mascara. However, I recently picked up a tube of their best-selling Shadow Insurance Eye Primer for only £4.99 (RRP £17.99) from TK Maxx and received the delectable, recently re-released Sweet Peach palette for my birthday.
I’m really trying to be more adventurous and not use the same Satin Taupe or nude eyeshadow palette every day. I love the matte raspberry and burnt oranges in the ABH Modern Renaissance and the vivid purples in the Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts palette, however, once I reach the checkout I always end up chickening out and picking up yet another collection of matte basics. I think the Sweet Peach palette is a good starting point. I know some people are complaining that it’s not ‘peachy’ enough but I like the mixture of bronze, pinks, purples and greens. They are different from the muted shades I usually reach for, but they’re still wearable and, as an added bonus, they smell scrumptious. Don’t worry, the scent isn’t too overpowering; it’s actually delicately fruity and very pleasant.
The Sweet Peach palette includes 18 ‘antioxidant-rich’ shades (1.5g per pan) and retails for £39. It comes in a cardboard box with gold foil detailing and the shade colours and names displayed on the back. The palette comes in a tin with a magnetic fastening, a mirror and a ‘Glamour Guide’ that features step-by-step instructions for three looks including; Smouldering Peach, Peaches & Cream and Southern Belle, that apparently take only 3 minutes to create but that’s highly debatable.
White Peach (matte cream) Luscious (beautiful peach champagne gold), Just Peachy (peach/pink gold shimmer), Bless Her Heart (A taupe with green undertones & gold shimmer), Tempting (black shimmer) and Charmed, I’m Sure (cool matte brown).
Nectar (pale peach with a pearl finish), Cobbler (bronze shimmer), Candied Peach (matte coral with glitter), Bellini (peach-toned version of Luscious), Peach Pit (warm brown shimmer) and Delectable (A matte purple).
Peaches ‘N Cream (pale matte peach), Georgia (matte pink/peach), Caramelized (dark bronze shimmer), Puree (milk chocolate matte brown), Summer Yum (matte reddish brown) and Talk Derby To Me (black with pink shimmer).
The majority of these shades are perfection, with the exception of Candied Peach and Delectable. These two shades are buildable and with a little work are definitely usable but compared to the smooth, highly pigmented formula of the other 16, they stand out as the most disappointing. They give poor colour payoff and are very patchy. I also wish Bless Her Heart was a touch more vibrant. The other 15? Wow, they are beautiful. They are easy to blend and, with a little Shadow Insurance underneath, incredibly long lasting and crease-proof. This is the most I’ve fallen in love with a palette in a long time, although I understand people’s concerns that a couple of the more neutral shades could have been replaced with more vibrant peach shades to take it over the edge. This palette has definitely sparked my interest in Too Faced, what product should I try next?
