A girl can never have too many makeup brushes, can she? Especially if they are metallic pink. Brand new to my collection is the limited edition Real Techniques Highlight & Glow Set (RRP £19.99). The set includes a ‘panoramic’ storage and display case, a Multi-Task Brush and two exclusive brushes: the Targeted Blending Brush and Compact Fan Brush. Each brush varies in cut, density, length and shape. The collection was designed specifically for highlighting, strobing and bronzing.
What I love about the Real Techniques collection is that as they’re created by the award-winning sister duo, Sam & Nic Chapman from YouTube channel Pixiwoo, there are online tutorials that support each of their products. The Highlight & Glow Set tutorial can be found here. I have to admit, I found the selection of brushes here a little odd considering they’re intended for highlighting and bronzing. I tend to use a fan brush or a Morphe 510 for my highlight and a huge big fluffy brush such as the RT Powder Brush to apply bronzer, so I was surprised by how small and densely packed all three are.
All three brushes contain ‘UltraPlush’ cruelty-free synthetic bristles and are unbelievably soft. I’m a huge fan of Real Techniques. I own over 15 of their brushes (although, I’m not a huge fan of their Bold Metals collection) and I find that they are some of the best quality brushes I own. They very rarely shed even after constant washing, they are able to blend out even the patchiest of eyeshadow formulas, they distribute product evenly and are incredibly affordable.
I love the design of these brushes, they have a decent weight to them and sit comfortably in the hand. The Multi-Task Brush contains long tapered bristles that pick up product well and is basically a slightly smaller dupe of my RT Blush Brush which I use daily. However, I find this brush a little too large for highlighting and too small to apply bronzer. I guess it’s all about personal preference, but I’ll probably use this for applying blush and foundation. The Targeted Blending Brush is even more tightly packed. It’s designed to pack on cream highlighters for an intense glow. As someone who likes a soft, natural glow and prefers to use powder formulas, I don’t think I’ll get much use out of this one. Finally, we have the Compact Fan Brush. This tiny fan brush can be used on the cupids bow, down the centre of the nose and under the brow bone for ‘strategic highlighting’.
I think this collection is aimed towards those who prefer to use cream and liquid highlighting products and that are wanting to achieve an intense glow rather than a natural finish. There’s no denying that the metallic pink finish to these three brushes is beautiful, that the bristles are incredibly soft and that they pick up product well.
