So, I don’t know about you but I am well and truly glad to see the back of 2016. The news of losing Carrie Fisher is yet another heartbreaking loss to an already draining and sombre year. Carrie was a carefree spirit who challenged people’s perceptions of age, mental health and addiction, and her no-bullshit attitude, brutal honesty and quick wit will truly be missed. We need people like her going into 2017, because if you think 2016 was bad, well, I don’t have high hopes for a year that will see Trump and his cretinous staff move into the White House. With that being said, I think we’re all excited to get glammed up, surround ourselves with friends and family, and give 2016 the middle finger…
To celebrate Rimmel sent me a bundle of their bestselling products to ensure I bring in the bells this Hogmanay with a flawless party look that Kate Moss herself would be proud of. As New Year’s Eve is definitely going to be a late one I’m planning on using my trusty Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation with Comfort Serum to make sure my base doesn’t budge all night. It gives me full coverage that is incredibly long lasting but unlike my Double Wear by Estee Lauder, it doesn’t feel heavy and cakey. To set it, as I do with all my foundations, I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent, which is truly one of the best mattifying pressed powder the high street has to offer. With a little help from my Collection Lasting Perfection, my base is pretty much sorted so let’s take a look at some other party must-haves from Rimmel…
Their Wonder’full Mascara with added Argan Oil contains a wand similar to Benefit’s They’re Real which helps to create a very pretty fanned-out effect. The argan oil leaves lashes incredibly soft and flexible and the formula is lightweight and clump-free. The mascara is lovely and gentle, I can definitely see myself reaching for this often, however, I prefer to use something a little more dramatic for nights out. If you’re similar and want more volume and definition but are useless at applying falsies, I recommend trying their Scandaleyes Mascara in Extreme Black. I find this more buildable and easier to remove when you wake up on the 1st with those inevitable panda eyes.
Recently, Rimmel has been seriously impressing me with their range of lipsticks and eyeliners. I was blown away by their The Only 1 Matte collection (FYI Take The Stage is the most beautiful shade of red ever) and it looks like the Lasting Finish by Kate 15 Year collection is set to be another winner. This shade is Boho Nude 56 and is part of a limited edition collection celebrating the 15-year partnership with Rimmel and Kate Moss. I can’t emphasise enough how creamy and pigmented it is. It glides onto the lips like butter and doesn’t feel like a ‘drugstore’ product whatsoever. Not to mention the rose gold packaging stole my heart as soon as I lay eyes on it.
I’ll be honest, I’m still scared of contouring as I’ve yet to find a product light enough to match my skin tone. I like the blush and cool toned shading powder as they are not too intensely pigmented, which sounds like a bad thing but stay with me. I often find that insanely pigmented contouring products appear patchy and are hard to blend and work with. I like the Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Palette because it’s soft and buildable, perfect for a contouring novice like myself. It adds a gentle coral glow that seamlessly blends into my pale skin and defines my features whilst still giving a natural finish. This product might be a little too subtle for a night out but it’s perfect for giving the illusion of fresh glowing skin the morning after!
