Two years ago, on my honeymoon, I stepped into makeup heaven aka I visited Sephora. I had spent most of my play money earlier that day on a pair of Disney Vans, so my funds were very limited. I picked up a few things including Sephora’s own brand Beauty Blender dupe, a sheet mask and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It wasn’t until I was leaving the store that I noticed a stunning Kat Von D display, it was torture walking away from it empty-handed. Thankfully, the wait is over; Kat Von D is finally available in the UK.
As much as her iconic contouring palette was calling my name, I thought I’d begin with something a bit more affordable to get a feel for the collection before deciding to splurge. I bought the Limited Edition London Calling Fearless Favourites set which contains deluxe samples of three of her best-selling products. The set contains: a mini Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita (1.2g), a mini Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare (3ml) and mini Waterproof Tattoo Liner in Trooper (0.2ml).
I can completely see why the Tattoo liner has become such a cult classic. The tip of the pen is incredibly fine and precise. My hands were really shakey the day I swatched the liner and, as you can see below, I still managed to get a very clean line. Unlike Soap & Gloy’s Supercat, it’s intensely pigmented so you don’t have to go over and over your line. The liner is also transferproof and very long wearing, as is her liquid lip. I raved about the NYX Liquid Suede, but honestly, this is my new favourite matte lip formula. If you have sensitive lips that can become irritated with matte lip formulas this is the product for you! It’s also ridiculously long lasting, I had a few drinks, kissed Penny a bunch of times and ate a ton of fajitas last night, and it still didn’t budge! Plus, it completely dries down into a flawless matte finish, which some liquid lips promise to do but still end up feeling tacky like the Maybelline Vivid lip colours. It also gives instant high coverage in one swipe. I am so impressed with this tiny lipstick and I can’t wait to buy more shades.
The lipstick has a soft, creamy texture that glides onto the lip like butter. The swatch above really doesn’t do the shade justice. For some reason, my camera picks it up as red but it’s more of a dusky rose. It’s also long lasting, but not as much as the Everlasting Liquid Lip and is highly pigmented. The packaging is also incredibly badass. The Studded Lipstick comes in 39 shades and, like all of Kat’s products, is vegan-friendly.
I love all three products in the London Calling set but the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare was definitely my favourite out of the three. I love the formula, I’ve never tried a lip product like it. The shade was a little more on the dark side than I’m used to but I don’t care the formula is outstanding. This tiny set (and I mean tiny) is a great way to try out a few of Kat’s bestselling products before investing in the full-size versions.
The London Calling Limited Edition set is available here and retails for £19.50.
