I must apologise, this post is way overdue! Don’t worry, this isn’t a reflection on the delicious selection of goodies inside last month’s Degustabox, it’s just that I’m still settling into my life with a newborn baby and I’m a little behind so, once again, thanks for being patient you lovely lot! June’s box was a BBQ treat filled box, containing burger mix, lemonade, ice lollies and relish from brands such as Branston, Schwartz, Amoy and Butterkist, which you can read more about here. Although July’s box is theme free, I love the mix of well-known and innovative brands and unique flavour combinations inside this box.
Let’s start with this month’s sweet treats which just so happen to be some of my favourite products. These Rowntree’s Fruit Pastille Infusions (£1.29) are an exciting twist on the original sugar-coated chewy sweets we all know and love. Infusions include three delicious combinations of flavours including orange & grapefruit, raspberry & pomegranate and apple & elderflower. They contain real fruit juice and no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. We devoured the whole bag at the cinema whilst watching Finding Dory and loved how juicy and tangy they are. This is a product I’ll definitely be repurchasing! Along with our Infusions, we happily munched through four handy snack packs of Bahlsen’s Milk Chocolate Covered Biscuits. Each pack costs only 40p, contains under 150 calories and would be perfect for picnics, lunchboxes and generally scoffing on-the-go. Finally, the Brookside Chocolates (£3.40) contain a blend of berry and fruit flavours such as this combination of dark chocolate covered acai and blueberry soft fruit centres. This generous 198g sharing bag is both rich and refreshing and makes for very unusual and exotic taste experience.
July’s box featured several very unusual and intriguing juice blends. First up, the ALO Original Alure Drink (£2.45) which contains real aloe vera handpicked from their organic farms flavoured with mangosteen and mango. It’s gluten-free, fat-free and claims to promote an “inner body tryst”. Next up, we have a favourite of mine, the Rejuvenation Water in Spanish Orange (£1.99). Specifically designed to “deal with the rigours of modern day life” the water contains a unique blend of amino acids which fuel the immune system and apparently help to build a natural resilience to stress, depression and anxiety. Another of my favourites this month came from the Cracker Drinks Co. (£1.50). They specialise in creating unique and delicious natural fruit juices such as this Pineapple, Coconut and Lime blend. This is basically Summer in a carton! I love how tropical and refreshing it tastes.
Continuing our juicy delights is this sparkling cucumber infused drink from Qcumber. Containing only carbonated spring water, natural cucumber extract, beet sugar and citric acid, this little can would be the perfect mixer with a fruity glass of Pimms this Summer. The last of our premium fruit drinks comes from BerryWhite. Made with organic fruit juice and available in a range of zingy flavours such as Lemon & Ginger and Cranberry & Guava, BerryWhite juices don’t contain any added sugar or artificial preservatives and each bottle contains one of your five a day, making this drink a delicious way for you and your family to stay healthy. What’s more, 10% of all profits support disadvantaged children and communities in Africa providing essential services such as good clean water, education and healthcare.
Two food cupboard essentials in this box come from brands Felix & Sarson. Sarson’s versatile Balsamic Vinegar (£1.99) is the perfect accompaniment to salads or a tangy homemade pesto and what’s a burger or sandwich without a sweet and crunchy pickled Felix Gherkin (£2.15) on the side?
I was also delighted to receive this massive 800g bag of Jordan’s Swiss Style Muesli (£2.79). I’ve been tucking into this deliciously light and creamy muesli all week. It contains 100% natural ingredients such as crispy wheat flakes, juicy raisins and almonds. This breakfast classic is sure to be a favourite with the whole family and is full of natural goodness, high in fibre and low in saturated fat.
Our last two products are tasty savoury snacks which both contain very unusual flavour combinations and ingredients. This bag of Chicken Jalfrezi flavoured latticed ‘Food Heroes’ from Seabrooks Crisps (£1.99) is seriously packed with flavour. The crisps are chunky, crunchy and contain a uniquely spicy kick that is both filling and satisfying. And finally, we have the Crispy Seaweed Thins by Itsu (£1). Flavoured with sea salt these thins are apparently becoming increasingly popular in the UK and are being heralded as the new vegetable crisp. Containing only 13 calories per pack and harvested from South Korea, they are definitely a healthier alternative but I’m afraid they weren’t to my personal taste.
