Last week I picked up my first ever lip products from Primark’s P.S. beauty collection: the Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon (£2) and Lip Liner Pencil (£1) both in 01. The selection in my local store has always been a little limited but for whatever reason there were quite a few shades available during my last visit, including a pretty pale pink, coral, plum, purple and Maroon. I popped this classic blush nude combo into my basket just out of pure curiosity, to be completely honest I didn’t really expect too much from this budget own-brand collection, how wrong I was.
I like the packaging of both products, their simple matching matte black and foil gold finish is sleek and not as cheap looking as say Next, ASDA or Poundword’s instore beauty collections. The shade is also easy to identify thanks to their colour coded caps, I just wish they came with shade names.
The crayon is incredibly soft and melts onto the lips easily giving a highly pigmented pop of colour. The creamy formula isn’t as drying as other matte lip products (NYX Lingerie I’m looking at you) and feels surprisingly comfortable and light. The liner is the crayon’s perfect partner in crime. The liner glides on seamlessly in one quick and easy sweep of the pencil and does a great job of preventing my colour from bleeding throughout the day. I honestly can’t believe the quality of this liner and I’m not surprised to read online that the collection contains several convincing MAC dupes.
I love how hydrated the crayon makes my lips feel, it doesn’t settle into each and every crack or give that chalky drying sensation other matte products give which always ends up irritating my lips terribly. As much as I love the crayon, it’s the liner that really blew me away and you can bet that next time I’m in store and these are back in stock I’ll be picking up EVERY shade available.
I’m so glad that I didn’t let my makeup snobbery didn’t get the better of me. These two buys are incredible quality and so affordable. I can’t wait to pick up more shades.
