Customisable palettes seem to taking the beauty world by storm right now, and I’m starting to see why. As I use my trusty Urban Decay Smokey palette I’m starting to notice the metal base of my four favourite shades (that are exclusive to that palette I may add) becoming more and more visible. If only I could buy separate pans and build my own personalised palette. This option may not be available for my favourite Urban Decay shades (their new single eyeshadows do have an in-built pop-out component, just not the shades I’m after) but for brands such as Kiko, Morphe Brushes, Anastasia Beverly Hills, MAC and Makeup Geek, the freedom to purchase individual blush, contour and eyeshadow shades and create your own custom palette has been a reality for some time now. It’s a trend I’m very quickly getting on board with.
Makeup Geek is a cruelty-free beauty brand available in the UK through stockists Beauty Bay. Their individual blush pans are £7.95/4.25g each and available in 12 shades. The pans are designed to fit into a refillable palette such as the popular Z Palette, which is available in a variety of sizes and styles with prices starting from £8.95.
As this is my first Makeup Geek purchase, I went for a relatively ‘safe’ shade; Head Over Heels (Above, left), described as a “pale muted pink”. I’m really impressed with the colour pay-off with this blush. The pigmentation is unbelievable and the soft powder blends incredibly evenly and smoothly on the skin. The baby pink shade also has a beautiful pearlescent shimmer to it which I wasn’t expecting. It’s very similar to my MAC Love Cloud Powder Blush (£18.50/6g) (Above, right) but a little cooler. Dare I say it, I actually prefer Head Over Heels to Love Cloud.
The first two swatches are of Head Over Heels and the second two are Love Cloud. They look a little different in the pan but they are practically indistinguishable on the skin.
