Happy Halloween everybody! Today I’m collaborating with the lovely people at Midori*. Midori is a vibrant lime-green liquor made from premium Japanese melons. It’s sweet, refreshing taste is incredibly distinctive and delicious, it’s perfect for giving your cocktails an unexpected twist this Halloween. Midori very kindly sent me a whole bunch of goodies to host my very own Fright Night and I can’t wait to share them with you.
Tonight I’ll be spending my evening sipping spooky cocktails (drink responsibly peeps!), pumpkin carving, munching on tasty snacks and terrifying myself witless watching Paranormal Activity (that’s the plan but there’s a 99.9% chance I’ll end up watching either Nightmare Before Christmas or Hocus Pocus instead). If being crammed into a noisy, sweaty, over-priced club just isn’t your scene either, here are a few ideas for planning a night in with the girls (or lads) this Halloween weekend…
Step 1 – Prepare the Cocktails
Midori is incredibly versatile, just check out their website here to discover a whole range of cocktail recipes from the sweet, sour and sparkling. My favourite was the Midori Pandemonium –
Ingredients:
20ml Midori
30ml Gordon’s Gin
30ml Pomegranate Juice
1 shot of Champagne or Prosecco
Squeeze of lime
a dash of Monin’s grenadine
Simply add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, shake and pour. You can serve with another cheeky shot of prosecco on the side if you care for even more bubbles, which I almost always do.
Step 2 – Pick a Movie
As I’ve mentioned before, I am a total wimp when it comes to horror movies. I still have nightmares about the girl from The Grudge crawling up the stairs after me, and I can’t walk down a corridor in a hotel without imagining the twins from The Shining being around the next corner. If you’re a wimp like me I suggest the following: Casper, The Addams Family, Coraline, The Corpse Bride, Edward Scissor Hands (although I have to admit this film still seriously creeps me out), Halloweentown, Ghost Busters, Paranorman or Hotel Transylvania. For those feeling a little braver check out Time Out’s 100 Best Horror Films, voted for by over 100 movie experts including Simon Pegg.
Step 3 – Get in the Snacks
Along with my beautifully packaged bottle of Midori was a bag of Joe & Sephs Gourmet Popcorn* in Toffee, Apple and Cinnamon. Honestly, the aroma that greeted me as soon as I opened the bag was unbelievable! It was everything I love about this time of year. The popcorn was just the way I like it, slightly sticky, crunchy and packed full of flavour. The combination of apple and cinnamon gives it both sweetness and warmth.
