I cannot express enough how much I love to blog. It’s more than just a hobby, in my mind it’s my full-time job. Even though I do it for free, that in itself should tell you how much I love to do it! If I’m not writing, I’m taking photos, contacting PR companies, replying to emails, commenting, joining Twitter chats and planning my next post. Yes, to my husband’s dismay I take it THAT seriously. I wish I started a blog years ago. Throughout my confusing, teenage angst and my uni blunders, I would have really benefited from having my own place to express my feelings and fears, to create, to share my experiences with and to reflect on my choices. There are so many things I love about blogging, here are just a few –
The Freedom
I love to write. Yes, both my spelling and grammar are totally crap, but it doesn’t matter because it’s my blog *sticks tongue out*. Here on The Beautiful Bluebird, I can type to my hearts content about everything and anything – there’s no rules or restrictions. It’s your tiny part of the internet to do whatever you want with, and when life gets crazy and you’re pulled in confusing directions, you can sit with a cup of tea, take a deep breath and go back to that one place you have control of, with it’s unlimited possibilities. Here I’m the queen of my own little castle, and I love it!
The Industry
Yes of course the blogging, but also the beauty industry. I find it fascinating! I am obsessed with new releases, discovering new brands, exploring new trends, trying new products, researching ingredients, reading reviews and adding to my beautiful collection. By creating and maintaining a beauty blog I finally feel part of it. The beauty world is something that has always interested me and having a place to share my passion and actually work with beauty and skincare brands is an absolute dream! I’m so thankful for the opportunities I have been given so far. I’ve collaborated with so many wonderful companies and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring!
The Community
So this is my number one reason for continuing to blog. For many reasons, mainly due to my crippling shyness and social anxiety, after university I found myself very isolated. I don’t know how it happened, one minute I was surrounded by people, the next moment I was cut off. Really I only have myself to blame. Relationships require attention, effort and time on both sides, and on days where I couldn’t face leaving the house or picking up the phone this proved difficult. Basically, I went into full-on hibernation mode. Now, I know most people believe that online friends aren’t really real friends, but I honestly feel more connected to some bloggers than I do to some people I’ve known for years. They have the same passions as me, they come from different parts of the world from me and they are there if I need them. The blogging community is so supportive and uplifting! It’s so refreshing to see a group of people genuinely trying to build one another up. Some people claim there is this ‘mean girls’ mentality within the community, and I guess there always is in any industry, but luckily I’ve never experienced it. Fingers crossed I never do!
I finally feel part of something again! That feeling motivates me, and actually makes me rather ambitious; a quality I never thought I possessed up to now. I want my blog to succeed, my statistics to grow and my brand to expand. Plus, it’s also just nice to have people to randomly have a chat with! There are some beyond lovely bloggers out there I know I can turn to even if it’s just for a rant – I love that!
Anyway, these are just a few of my reasons for creating and maintaining The Beautiful Bluebird. I hope I didn’t ramble too much, I have a tendency to do that. It’s also worth noting that not everything about blogging is rainbows and sprinkles. It’s bloody hard work and pretty stressful at times but the positives waaaaaaay out weigh the negatives. Just make sure you get into it for the right reasons because, despite what many think, you have to work hard to get results – it’s in no way a fast track to freebies!
I’d love to know what any other bloggers think about the community?
Why do you blog? What motivates you to keep writing? I’d love to hear about your experiences!
