So this month’s You Beauty Discover Box (Best of British Edition) was an amazing little box which contained two Dove hair care samples, a Nak’d snack bar, a full set of Stylondon Nail Wraps and this gorgeous full sized Illamasqua Lipstick – for only £6.95! Everyone seems to be talking about cult British beauty brand Illamasqua (pronounced ill-ah-mass-ka in case you were wondering) at the moment so I couldn’t wait to try the dramatic red lipstick inside this beautiful sleek black packaging.
Launched in 2008, Illamasqua looked to “members of the ‘alternative scenes’ for whom self-expression is paramount” to create their line of cosmetics. The brand looks to embody the “bolder person hiding inside all of us. It is an act and an attitude. A symbol of tolerance. A celebration of idiosyncrasies. A confident statement of self-ownership”. When I visited their website and watched their Distinction in Make-up Artistry Award video it was clear that this brand is heavily inspired by film and theatre, and caters for both the professional artist and the girl next door. They look to encourage bold and beautiful creations, whilst celebrating individuality. What’s more Illamasqua are completely against animal testing and ensure all their suppliers also follow this philosophy.
Sangers is a colour intense bold, blood red lipstick with a highly pigmented formula and a creamy matte finish. Unlike other matte lipsticks Sangers is comfortable to wear, it isn’t too drying or chalky. It’s the perfect shade for creating a sophisticated and high impact look. It reminds me of a vintage lip worn in the 50’s. It’s incredibly long lasting acting like more of stain than a lipstick. The lipstick is buildable depending on the intensity you want to achieve and application is easy thanks to it’s smooth formula. The Illamasqua Lipstick in Sangers retails online at £18.50.
