I don’t know if you noticed but to celebrate Collection 2000’s 25th birthday a few years back they had a complete brand overhaul; new packaging, new products and a new name – ‘Collection’ with the tagline “Work the Colour”. I definitely like the newer, sleeker name, Collection 2000 was a bit outdated. When I think of Collection 2000 I think of the glitter nail polish that came free with ‘Shout’ magazine in the 90’s. They fell off my radar shortly after my teenage years because of this. I just happened to be browsing when I noticed these dinky little eyeshadow palettes in Boots. I fell in love with the combination of shades so I decided to purchase the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette (£3.99) in both Nude & Nude Grey.
First up the Nude palette. The cardboard packaging is simple and pretty basic, it’s stripped back and understated which I like but perhaps not very durable in the long run. It’s a handy size to throw in your handbag, lightweight and comes with a sponge applicator and a magnetic fastening. The Nude palette isn’t the most exciting or eye catching but it’s the perfect product for creating an everyday classic nude eye which is a necessity in any eyeshadow collection.
White Chocolate (L to R) is a matte shade that makes a perfect base colour for building up your look, Buttercream is a pale shimmering gold, Biscuit is a deeper richer gold, Chocolate Milk is a even darker slightly bronze shimmer, Brown Sugar is a bronze shimmer with slight grey undertones and Espresso is a gorgeous matte brown, which when used on the lash line can turn your fresh daytime look into a sultry evening one in just a few stokes.
Next up the Collection Eyes Uncovered Palettes in Nude Grey also £3.99. I have to admit I love a smoky eye so this was right up my street! Again this palette contains six shades, this time a little bit cooler. Parchment (again L to R) is quite similar to White Chocolate but unfortunately not as highly pigmented, Rubble is a beautiful shimmering gold, Under the Moon is slightly cooler and is the perfect transition into the grey, more smokey shades, Drift Wood is a shimmering grey almost silver shade, In A Nutshell is a dark chocolaty brown and Eclipse, is a basic matte black.
Both palettes are very blendable with minimal fallout. The pigmentation could have been slightly more concentrated on shades such as Parchment however considering that both swatches were created with only one stroke using the sponge applicator provided I was really impressed! The shades are more buttery than powdery, they melt onto the eye like some of my premium palettes do which cost nearly 5x the price! These two little beauties have made me think of Collection in a whole new light.
