Okay, I finally give into hot water bottles and dark early nights – it’s officially Autumn. There are some things I love about Autumn; the colours for one, the trees in the woods next to my house are starting to look pretty spectacular; the cinnamon scented Yankee Candles burning on my fireplace, lots and lots of fluffy socks, the excitement in the build up to Christmas, mugs and mugs of hot chocolate and did I mention it’s nearly Christmas?
I don’t really think my makeup really changes season to season. My beauty regime does change a bit, the colder weather tends to mean lots of Carmex lip balm, my Almond Hand & Nail Butter from The Body Shop to soothe chapped hands and mountains of bath bombs (see Lush’s new Christmas range). However my new red hair has encouraged me to put away the bronzer, embrace the pale, get out the liquid eyeliner and start using bolder darker lip colours, I guess this could also be seen as embracing Autumn! When it comes to my nails I’m guilty of sticking to one shade – coral (Rimmel’s 60 Second Nail Polish in Coralicious to be exact) so it’s definitely time for a change! I couldn’t resist these gorgeous luxurious colours for the Barry M ‘Silk’ range (£3.99 each).
These nail varnishes were incredibly difficult to photograph! The photos below have shown a bit lighter than the shades are actually are. This is because the varnishes have a lovely matte sheen with tiny little, almost frosty, pearlescent particles that shimmer when the light hits them as I’ve tried to capture in the photo above. The colours are rich and festive but stylish and beautifully understated. The polish is very quick drying and easy to apply and remove. I used the Barry M Base, Top Coat and Nail Hardener (£2.99) as a base coat as to not stain my nails, as I always do, however I found a top coat really isn’t needed as it takes away from the satin like matte finish.
Poppy – A very ‘Christmassy’ rich burgundy shade that gently shimmers in the light. The polish feels velvety smooth on your nail due to it’s matte finish. A gorgeous colour that gives a new spin on the classic red nail.
Next up, Forest. This stunning deep almost Jungle-like colour is very festive! It looks like a deep green as first glance but it shimmers teal and blue particles – really bold, eye catching and very different from anything I’ve ever tried before.
Orchid – This is my favourite colour! This regal deep intense purple shade with the same beautiful shimmer and matte finish.
I’m really impressed with this collection, all three shades work well together and are perfect for the upcoming Autumn/Winter months. Application is ridiculously quick as they are very fast drying, I used two coat for a more intense colour and less obvious brush strokes. The intense colours and unique silky matte finish make these polishes completely stand out from the crowd this Autumn.
